USDA Approves Neogen Corporation’s (NEOG) Test for DON SQ

Neogen Corporation (NEOG) has announced that the USDA Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) has verified the performance of the company’s test for deoxyniyalenol (also known as DON and vomotoxin). DON is one of the most widely regulated natural toxins in the world. GIPSA’s approval of Neogen’s Reveal® for DON SQ allows the simple lateral flow strip test to be used for official testing in the national grain inspection system.

GIPSA’s current approval of Reveal covers the use of the test kit to screen wheat samples at 2 parts per million. After a water extraction, clear sample results can be read in five minutes. Ed Bradley, vice president of Food Safety stated the approval allows regulators to add the improved test to the list of products Neogen provides for safe worldwide food and feed supply. Reveal was designed to provide the easiest semi-quantitative results for DON available.

Neogen also offers Reveal® for Aflatoxin and Aflatoxin SQ which allows for quick testing of aflatoxin, the most widely regulated mycotoxin, in as little as 2 minutes or less. The company is the only one that markets tests that use the same extraction to both screen and quantitate a sample’s exact level of aflatoxin. Neogen’s Reveal AccuScan III System is a handheld lateral flow test reader combined with a personal data assistant and data management computer software.
