Universal Display Corp. (PANL) Made Splash with Presentation of All-Phosphorescent White OLED

One company that savvy investors are starting to place in their portfolio is the Universal Display Corporation. Based in Ewing, New Jersey, the Universal Display Corporation has quickly evolved into a leader in developing and delivering state-of-the-art, organic light emitting device (OLED) technologies, materials and services to the display and lighting industries. On May 27, company took a major step towards enhancing their future with the presentation of their all-phosphorescent white OLED.

Universal Display’s white OLED performance will now be on a commercial-scale 15 cm x 15 cm lighting panel using the company’s highly-efficient phosphorescent OLED technology and materials. This new white OLED panel is believed to have the most energy-efficient performance, at this scale, reported to date.

The OLED has received major national attention from the industry and will be funded in part by the U.S. Department of Energy. Dr. Peter A. Levermore who works as a Research Scientist at Universal Display presented these unique advances in a paper titled, “Highly Efficient Phosphorescent OLED Lighting Panels for Solid-State Lighting.” This paper and this funding display a great deal of credibility to this project and to the company as a whole.

Universal Display has been working to scale its record-breaking, research-scale PHOLED results to commercial-sized lighting panels that meet Energy Star targets. During the talk of his paper, Dr. Levermore discussed Universal Display’s development of a new all-phosphorescent white OLED lighting panel. This panel emits a warm-white light with a color rendering index (CRI) of 87 and a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 3055K.

Leading the way at Universal Display is Steven V. Abramson who serves as the company’s President and CEO. Commenting on what this new OLED technology will mean to the future of Universal Display, Abramson was quoted as saying, “With up to four times the efficiency of conventional OLED technology, our proprietary PHOLED technology and materials have enabled the demonstration of power-efficient, white OLEDs that have the potential to meet Energy Star requirements for solid-state lighting. This recent advance in white OLED panel performance is a considerable step toward those targets.”

Currently, Universal Display is trading in the $17.62 range. With this breakthrough technology in place coupled with interest from the sector and the government, Universal Display is clearly a company on the move.
