The Marcus Corporation (MCS) Acquires 11 Acres of Vacant Land in Nebraska for Development

The Marcus Corporation (MCS), based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and founded in 1935, provides lodging and entertainment services. Marcus Theatres® is the seventh largest theatre circuit in the U.S., managing 678 movie screens at 56 locations in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio, North Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska. Marcus Hotels and Resorts owns and manages a portfolio that consists of eight company-owned properties in Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Oklahoma; and twelve managed properties scattered throughout the West coast and the Midwest.

The company announced recently the acquisition of approximately 11 acres of vacant land in the Southport West development in La Vista, Nebraska. The land is part of a mixed-use, commercial development located in a growing suburb of Omaha. The property spans 137 acres and plans for development include a combination of offices, hotels, restaurants and retailers, including the retail chain outfitter Cabelas, which opened in November 2006. The company is in the process of finalizing what it intends to do with the property.

This acquisition follows on the heels of a prior acquisition by Marcus in April 2008. The company had acquired and assumed operations of seven Douglas Theatre locations in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska. The Douglas acquisition, and another one a year prior that netted an additional 11 movie theatres from Cinema Entertainment Corporation, brought the company to its current ranking as the seventh largest movie circuit.
