Silicon Image, Inc. (SIMG) Introduces Next-Gen Home Theater Video Processors

Silicon Image announced two new upscaling video processors that have been designed to enhance the picture quality of streaming and downloaded Internet video. The processors utilize the company’s proprietary VRS ClearView technology. This is in anticipation of the electronic display industry’s move to ultra-high resolution 4K displays.

Silicon Image is focused on producing solutions for delivering HD content to consumer electronics. This is accomplished via semiconductor and intellectual property products, such as the InstaPort and InstaPrevue product series. Silicon Image hardware is found in devices including desktop and notebook PCs, DTVs, Blu-ray Disc players, audio-video receivers, and handheld products such as mobile phones, tablets, and digital cameras.

The VRS ClearView technology used in the new processors allows for improved video quality by reducing compression noise, removing edge artifacts, and enhancing detail, as well as scaling SD and HD content to resolutions up to 4Kx2K. The processors also include integrated HDMI and MHL interfaces, and will be shown at Silicon Image’s demo suite during CEATEC Japan 2012, Oct. 2-5, 2012, in Tokyo, Japan.

Alex Chervet, senior director of marketing at Silicon Image, said, “With the growing trend of streaming media and downloaded Internet video, consumers can instantly view content but often have to sacrifice video quality due to heavy compression. Integrating our new video processors with VRS ClearView technology into home theater devices not only improves image quality but provides a future-proof solution so that today’s Blu-ray players or A/V receivers can take advantage of tomorrow’s 4K displays.”
