SatCon Technology Corporation (NASDAQ: SATC) – Offering Energy Solutions

Incorporated in 1986, SatCon Technology Corporation is a developer and manufacturer of power electronics and control systems. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, they make their products for the alternative energy, hybrid-electric vehicle, grid support, high-reliability electronics, and advanced power technology markets. They trade on NASDAQ and have more than 225 employees, many of which are engineers with advanced degrees in electrical, mechanical, controls, magnetics, and systems engineering.

SatCon Technology Corporation has 71 patents and holds the rights to an additional 38 patents. The company’s products meet their clients’ needs for reliable power. Their products are for microwatt to megawatt-scale advanced electronic components, subsystems, and systems. SatCon designs and delivers innovative and efficient energy systems for solar photovoltaic, stationary fuel cells, wind turbines, and energy storage systems.

SatCon’s critical power products include digital controllers and power conversion systems. They find use in applications such as power quality, manufacturing, factory automation, aircraft, satellite, telecommunications, silicon wafer manufacturing, automotive, and distributed power generation systems.

SatCon has three business divisions with facilities in the United States and Canada. Their SatCon Power Systems manufactures and sells static power conversion and energy management systems, which use power electronics and advanced controls. They provide systems for solar photovoltaic, stationary fuel cells, wind turbines, energy storage, and many other energy sources from hydraulic applications to micro-turbines. This unit also manufactures medium-voltage power systems including static transfer switches and low-voltage static ride-through equipment.

SatCon Electronics manufactures and sells regulators, power MOSFETS; motor controllers, AC:DC converters; RF devices; amplifiers; telecommunications electronics; and hybrid microcircuits. These are for industrial, medical, and aerospace industry use. The company’s SatCon Applied Technology unit develops advanced technology in power conversion electronics; power management and distribution systems; hybrid electric-vehicle technology, electric machinery; and advanced electronic material applications.

SatCon Technology Corporation announced in July that they would increase their manufacturing capacity by 50 percent in the third quarter of 2008. This is an additional 20 percent over their original plans developed to address significant growth in the European and Asian markets. This extra production will focus on their 500kW and 225kW PowerGate Plus™ solar PV inverters. SatCon Technology Corporation continues to work to create the products to meet the marketplace’s demands for reliable power. They know they will further their goals and the goals of their shareholders when they meet these critical marketplace needs.
