Adaptec Inc. (Nasdaq: ADPT) provides software and hardware-based storage solutions for Original Equipment Manufactures (OEM). Their technology provides the ability to safely and securely move, manage and protect data and digital content. The company’s solutions are applicable for government organizations, as well as medium and small businesses around the world.
The company today announced an agreement with IBM in which IBM will integrate Adaptec’s RAID Storage Processor (RSP) technology into the IBM BladeCenter S. This integration will create the first-of-its-kind redundant shared-blade storage system.
Adaptech’s president and CEO, S. “Sundi” Sundaresh, said the deal boosts Adaptec’s operations and its dedication to the technology industry.
“IBM has been a valued customer and Adaptec is extremely proud to contribute to IBM’s development of such a game-changing product,” Sundaresh stated in the press release. “With the deployment of Adaptec’s RAID technology in IBM’s BladeCenter family, we have taken a significant step in strengthening our OEM business. We are committed to developing data storage solutions that provide the performance, features and efficiencies required to allow global market leaders to compete in the rapidly evolving IT marketplace.”
“Robust adoption of blade server technology continues as large companies look to boost data centre efficiency and as server manufacturers roll out new blade server solutions for the SMB marketplace. The incorporation of Adaptec’s RAID technology in IBM BladeCenter S further expands the overall value proposition for mid-market customers,” stated Jed Scaramella, senior research analyst at IDC.
Alex Yost, vice president of IBM BladeCenter, said IBM leads the market for shared storage solutions and that the BladeCenter S allows for six times the storage capacity of current blade offerings. Adaptec agrees on IBM’s position in the industry and believes the integration of the two products will benefit OEMs.
“As the market for high-performing, cost- and energy-efficient blade servers grows around the world, so will the need for equally effective data storage management solutions,” Anil Gupta, vice president and general manager of Adaptec Storage Technology Products line stated. “IBM’s SAS RAID Controller Module is an impressive example of the highly differentiated products that innovative, customer-centric OEMs can build with the help of Adaptec RSP technology.”
