Helen of Troy Ltd. reported large year over year increases in sales and net income for the second quarter ending 8/31/2010. The company said that it saw strength in both the Housewares and Personal Care segments.

Helen of Troy Ltd. reported sales of $174.8 million in the second quarter, an 8% increase from the $162.2 million reported in the same quarter last year. Helen of Troy Limited reported net income of $23.4 million, or $0.75 per diluted share, in the second quarter. The company earned net income of $15.9 million, or $0.51 per diluted share, in the corresponding quarter last year.

Helen of Troy Limited said that both sales and net income in the quarter were the highest in the company’s history.

Sales in the Housewares Segment increased by 10% to $55.7 million in the most recent quarter, while the Personal Care segment saw a 7% jump in sales to $119.1 million over last year.

Helen of Troy Limited said that the company bought back 80,000 shares of its common stock during the second quarter. The company reported cash and cash equivalents of $49.1 million as of 8/31/2010.
