Capstone Turbine Corp. (CPST) is “One to Watch”

Trading on the NASDAQ Global Market, Capstone Turbine Corporation is the world’s leading producer of low-emission microturbine systems. The Company was the first to market commercially viable microturbine energy products. Capstone Turbine has shipped more than 5,000 Capstone MicroTurbine® systems to customers globally. A UL-Certified ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certified company, Capstone has their headquarters in the Los Angeles area with sales and/or service centers in the New York Metro Area, Mexico City, Nottingham, Shanghai, and Singapore.

Capstone Turbine is a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Combined Heat and Power Partnership. This Partnership’s commitment is to improving the efficiency of the nation’s energy infrastructure and reducing emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases. The Capstone MicroTurbine allows a business to generate their own electricity onsite, supplementing the electric grid. During peak usage hours, this effectively reduces or eliminates grid-connected power consumption and demand charges from the local utility.

By design, the Company’s microturbines achieve near complete combustion of flare and vent gases, virtually eliminating hydrocarbon emissions. According to the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, burning solution gas in a microturbine for resource recovery applications reduces emissions of greenhouse gases.

With 9 ppm (parts per million) nitrous oxide emission (NOx), Capstone is an ideal solution for hybrid electric vehicle applications. Used in combined heat and power (CHP) applications, efficiencies upwards of 70 percent to 90 percent reduce greenhouse gas emissions, guard against power reliability problems, and help control energy costs.

The Capstone MicroTurbine can also transform low grade, unprocessed waste biogas with methane content as low as 35 percent (350 Btu/scf) into usable electricity. It is proving a practical and cost-effective technology that can eliminate flaring at landfills, wastewater treatment plants, and agricultural or livestock facilities.

The microturbine can also be used to create onsite electricity in remote locations where there is no electric grid. The Capstone MicroTurbine can reduce pollutants and greenhouse gases while creating onsite electricity from a variety of gases. This includes high-pressure sweet or sour wellhead gas and low-pressure coal bed methane. In Combined Heat and Power (CHP) applications, the oxygen-rich heat exhaust can be captured and further utilized for heating water or air, or to drive A/C compressors.

On Wednesday, Capstone Turbine Corporation reported that they recently sold a C800 Power Package and General Electric Clean Cycle waste heat recovery generator to a large food manufacturer in Mexico. Capstone is the exclusive Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) partner with Calnetix Power Solutions, Inc. (which was acquired by GE in October) to sell the zero emission Clean Cycle waste heat recovery generator for all microturbine applications and for landfill applications below 500-kilowatts.

Yesterday, Capstone Turbine Corporation announced that they received a follow-on order from the same company for six more C1000 Power Packages. Capstone distributor Pumps & Service, which secured both orders from the same exploration and production company operating in the Eagle Ford Shale play in South Texas, expects the customer will continue to order additional C1000 microturbines in 2011. The announcement is the fifth order Pumps & Service has received in recent months from large oil and gas companies operating in significant shale reserves in the United States.
