ZBB Energy Corp. (ZBB) to Provide Energy Storage System for U.S. Army’s Micro-Grid Project

ZBB Energy Corp. is a leading developer of intelligent, renewable eletrical power platforms. The company’s platforms are targeted at the growing global need for distributed renewable energy, energy efficiency, power quality and grid modernization.

The company announced yesterday a contract award from Eaton Corporation. The contract is for ZBB to provide a 500 kilowatt-hour energy storage system for use in a micro-grid application at a U.S. Army facility in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, utilizing ZBB’S next-generation ZESS V3 technology.

This technology is a zinc bromide flow battery designed to serve as an advanced electrical energy storage device. It is constructed from environmentally-friendly materials that provide for long service life and advanced performance when compared with traditional chemical batteries.

This Department of Defense Micro-Grid Development Project will be used to develop standards for the U.S. Army’s efforts on the Energy Surety Micro-Grid Program. Research efforts will focus on evaluation of micro-grid technologies to provide off-grid, islanded power to specific areas at Ft. Sill. The research will be led by the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center and the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory.

ZBB Energy will work closely with several groups within Eaton Corporation to define operational standards for advanced energy storage systems on micro-grids such as this project and for use at future Department of Defense facilities.
