UQM Technologies today announced it has begun supplying the PowerPhase HD 220 electric drive systems to Boulder EV for building delivery vans for FedEx Express. The vehicles will be put into service in several locations in the United States, Asia, and Europe.
UQM Technologies introduced the PowerPhase HD 220 electric drive system in May and was selected by Boulder EV, a green tech manufacturer of all-electric delivery trucks and cargo vans, to power the delivery vans as part of the FedEx Express all-electric vehicle fleet. Debuting this new product through commercial fleet customers like Boulder EV and FedEx Express will not only demonstrate the PowerPhase HD 220 system’s performance and efficiency advantages, but will also establish a foundation for future sales growth.
Boulder EV will use the PowerPhase HD 220 systems in its composite delivery van, which has been designed specifically to be an all-electric vehicle. The system delivers a maximum output of 220kW and delivers 120kW on a continuous basis, offering commercial trucks and buses an efficient segue into the adoption of electric propulsion technology in heavy-duty vehicles.
Headquartered in Longmont, Colo., UQM Technologies develops and manufactures power-dense, high-efficiency electric motors, generators and power electronic controllers for the automotive, aerospace, military, and industrial markets. One of the company’s major emphasis is developing products for the alternative energy technologies sector, which includes propulsion systems for electric, hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric and fuel cell electric vehicles; under-the-hood power accessories; and other vehicle auxiliaries.
