Tyco Electronics Ltd. (TEL) said Wednesday it is donating $1 million worth of emergency wireless communications equipment and field technical services to disaster relief teams in China following last week’s devastating earthquake. The company’s Wireless Systems segment is providing mobile communications equipment, portable and mobile radios, base stations and network control equipment and, through its Chinese staff, engineering assistance.
The donation is in addition to the $150,000 in cash that Tyco Electronics has donated to the Red Cross Society of China and the $90,000 in products and services that the company’s Network Solutions segment has committed to help rebuild communications and energy networks in China.
Tyco Electronics also has established an internal fund called the Tyco Electronics China Earthquake Relief Fund, to enable its employees to provide direct support for their co-workers in China who were affected by the earthquake. Tyco Electronics said its employees have already contributed more than $200,000 to the fund.
