Trimble Navigation Limited (TRMB) Introduces the Trimble® 5800 GPS System

Trimble (TRMB) uses technology to produce solutions focused on applications requiring position or location. These applications include surveying, construction, agriculture, fleet and asset management, public safety and mapping. The company, based in Sunnyvale, California and founded in 1978, also provides positioning technologies such as GPS, lasers and optics.

Trimble recently announced the introduction of a scalable Trimble® 5800 GPS System. This system will add greater flexibility and versatility for a variety of survey, construction, civil engineering, and asset management applications. The Trimble 5800 System combines a GPS receiver, antenna, UHF radio, Bluetooth wireless technology, and power source into a single compact unit.

Weighing approximately 2.67 lbs. (1.21 kilograms), the system can be configured as a GPS base or rover, making it versatile for the surveyor’s project needs. As a rover, the cable-free GPS system is comprised of a lightweight pole, controller, holder, and batteries for a full day’s work, and weighs only 7.8 lbs. (3.5 kilograms). The receiver has 2MB of internal memory and is rugged enough to withstand a drop of up to 2 meters onto a hard surface and is submersible to a depth of 1 meter.
