The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued three patents to TeleCommunication Systems, Inc., a leader in mobile communication technology. The patents cover three system technologies used to provide wireless device location based services:

• Wireless Network Tour Guide (patent #7,853,272) – The patent covers a method for providing tour-guide information to smart phones and other wireless devices, through the blending of text and audio messages with location based wireless services.

• Area Watcher for Wireless Network (patent #7,856,236) – The patent describes a system in which authorized third parties are notified about a wireless device’s entry or exit from custom-defined geographical areas, allowing, for example, a retailer to send promotional offers when a customer enters a store.

• Method and System for Enabling an Off-Board Navigation System (patent #7,856, 315) – The patent describes a method for providing voice enabled directions using a mobile communication device, by using map database information based on a remote server instead of on the device itself.

These three location-based services patents affirm TCS’ commitment to leading the wireless industry with vision and innovation to develop the technologies that enhance the daily lives of people on the move.”
