Founded in 1995, Star Gas Partners, L.P. is America’s largest retail distributor of home heating oil. They are also a service provider and have their corporate headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. The company operates three divisions: Petro Oil Division, Meenan Oil Division, and Leffler Energy Division. Overall, Star Gas Partners serves markets in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and Virginia.
Founded in 1903, the Petro Oil Division is the nation’s leading provider of home heating oil. Their founder, M.A. Fessler, invented the first oil burner to take advantage of the crude oil discoveries in California. The company he founded, Fess System Co., eventually became Petro Oil. This division now has a large network and resources which allow them to support their customers’ home heating oil, boilers, furnaces, hot water heaters, and air conditioning needs. They utilize the latest energy-efficient equipment and provide competitive financing options to help their clients save on home energy costs.
Star’s Meenan Oil Division offers heating oil sales and services as well. They also offer home security systems. They customize state-of-the-art home security systems to suit the specific needs of their customers. They offer a Direct Response Network, which provides their customers 24-hour protection in case of police, fire, or medical emergency. This division has been in operation for over sixty years. They have offices and affiliates in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
Star Gas Partners’ Leffler Energy Division provides coal and petroleum products and services to homes, businesses, government agencies, and agricultural operations. This division has existed since 1941. They primarily serve central and eastern Pennsylvania; however, they are expanding into New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. They offer full-service heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning service. They also offer branded gasoline dealership support and supply agricultural use petroleum.
Their founder, Carlos Leffler, started this business serving the farm trade. This division allows farmers to buy gasoline, diesel, heating oil, and kerosene at low market rates with different payment options. They have eight customer service centers and ten storage facilities in key locations in the areas they serve. Leffler has their headquarters in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania.
In August, Star Gas Partners, L.P. announced their financial results for their fiscal 2008 third quarter ended June 30, 2008, reporting a 16-percent increase in total revenue to $258.1 million. Star Gas Partners hopes to continue to be that shining star that guides their shareholders to greater profits in the quarters and years ahead.
