Mentor Graphics Corp. (MENT) Provides Solutions

Founded in 1981, and headquartered in Wilsonville, Oregon, Mentor Graphics Corp. (MENT) focuses, as a company, on electronic hardware and software design solutions for their customers. They provide products, consulting services, and support for some of the world’s major electronics and semi-conductor companies. With approximately 4,200 employees, and as part of the Technical and Systems Software industry, Mentor Graphics trades on the NASDAQ.

Mentor graphics is involved in world-class research and development through their 28 engineering sites around the world. As a leader in electronic design automation, they enable companies to develop better electronics products faster and in a more cost-effective manner. Mentor offers products and solutions that help engineers overcome the design challenges they can face in board and chip design. The company distributes their product offerings through 48 global sales offices.

One area of focus for the company is Scalable Verification. They provide their customers with critical tools for verifying that today’s complex chip designs actually function as intended. The Mentor Graphics Scalable Verification™ platform is a comprehensive EDA solution for functional verification, merging standards support, tools, and a “design for verification” methodology, to minimize verification cycles and design revisions.

Another area of focus for the company is Design-to-Silicon. In advanced process technologies, the transfer from integrated circuit layout to manufacturing has changed. With previous technologies, the transfer was a simple and basic-checked when the design went to manufacturing. Now it is a multi-step process where there is modification of the layout database so manufacturing of the design can take place. Mentor Graphics offers their integrated Calibre® design-to-silicon platform, which includes physical verification, full-chip, transistor-level parasitic extraction, design for manufacturability (DFM), mask data preparation (MDP), and resolution enhancement technologies (RET). The company designed the Calibre® product family so that it efficiently and accurately manages every facet of the design-to-silicon transition.

One other area of prime focus for the company is Integrated PCB-FPGA Systems Design. With the design of printed circuit boards (PCB) becoming more complex, Mentor Graphics provides many of the world’s largest system design companies with a range of scalable design solutions to help them reduce the time, cost, and risk of electronic system design. They have their Expedition™ Series, for the creation of today’s most complex PCB designs. They have their Board Station® family, for the PCB design challenges of the global enterprise. In addition, they have their PADS® flow, a Windows-based solution for complex PCB design.

It’s all about providing solutions to increasingly complex problems that Mentor’s customers face when it comes to electronic hardware and software design. The company continually devotes their energies and resources to R&D to come up with the cost-effective solutions that companies demand for their design problems. Mentor Graphics continues to create and implement these solutions globally for sustained growth.
