LipoScience, a diagnostic company pioneering an innovative new field of customized NMR diagnostics to advance the quality of patient care, specifically regarding metabolic, cardiovascular and other diseases, announced earlier today the recruitment of William Cromwell, M.D. to the position of Chief Medical Officer.

Board certified by the American Board of Clinical Lipidology, Dr. Cromwell is a globally recognized expert in the management of lipid and lipoprotein disorders. In addition, Dr. Cromwell is a fellow of the American Heart Association Council on Atherosclerosis, Vascular Biology and Thrombosis, Fellow of the National Lipid Association and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is also a member of the American Heart Association Council on Nutrition, Metabolism and Physical Activity, as well as the Southeastern Lipid Association. Dr. Cromwell currently teaches as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Hypertension and Vascular Disease Center at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Previously serving as the company’s Chief Medical Officer from 1999 to 2005, he will join LipoScience for a second time.
Dr. Cromwell will be coming over from the Lipoprotein and Metabolic Disorders Institute (LMDI), currently located in Raleigh, North Carolina. He founded the institute as a center of excellence in 1998 for the comprehensive evaluation and management of lipid (cholesterol and triglyceride) disorders, as well as the study of early vascular disease. He earned his doctoral degree in medicine from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition Dr. Cromwell has impressively published over 20 review articles, peer-reviewed book chapters, and original research regarding lipid and lipoprotein disorders.
