Jewett-Cameron Trading Company has four subsidiaries, each with its own business focus. The combination of all of them has helped Jewett-Cameron find a cozy niche in today’s markets. They actually posted their most profitable quarter results on July 14th in a down market for new construction.
Those subsidiaries are:
Jewett-Cameron Lumber Corporation: Their business consists of warehouse distribution and direct sales of specialty metal products and wood products to home centers and other retailers. These products are primarily lawn, garden and pet items. Metal products include dog kennels, a gate support system, and perimeter fencing; while wood products include fencing and landscape timbers.
Greenwood Products, Inc: A processor and distributor of industrial and specialty wood products. A major product is treated plywood that is sold to boat manufacturers and the transportation industry. Other products include imported plywood, furniture stock, kiln sticks, and laminated veneer lumber.
MSI-PRO: An importer and distributor of pneumatic air tools, industrial clamps, and the Avenger Products line of saw blades and other products. These products are primarily sold to retailers that in turn sell to contractors and end users.
Jewett-Cameron Seed Company: A processor and distributor of agricultural seeds.
The industrial wood segment will likely continue to struggle based on depressed market conditions coupled with the loss of a large customer for Jewett-Cameron. However, demand for their specialty metal products; which include dog kennels, a proprietary gate support system, and perimeter fencing, is very good.
