JetBlue Airways Corp. (JBLU) Launches Service Between Washington D.C. and San Juan, Puerto Rico

New York-based JetBlue Airways is known as much for its award-winning service and free in-flight entertainment as it is for its low fares. The company offers its passengers amenities like the most legroom in coach when compared to other airlines thanks to its Airbus A320 fleet. The airline’s hub is New York City with focus cities including Boston, Los Angeles, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, and San Juan.

The company announced today that it has launched the first-ever daily nonstop “capital-to-capital” service from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to San Juan, Puerto Rico. In order to celebrate this special launch, flights are on sale now for $99 one-way today to August 24, 2012, for travel between September 6, 2012, and November 15, 2012. Tickets are available at www.jetblue.com/new.

JetBlue was granted a pair of beyond-perimeter slot exemptions from the United States Department of Transportation to launch this new long distance flight in May. The company’s flights are the only nonstop service between D.C.’s downtown airport and San Juan. This route is JetBlue’s 14th destination from San Juan and will operate from the company’s exclusive new ‘home’ in Terminal A at the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.

The airline is Puerto Rico’s biggest airline, offering more seats in and out of the island than any other carrier with service to 14 nonstop destinations throughout the U.S. mainland and the Caribbean. Since JetBlue first began flying into San Juan in 2002, the number of passengers flying to and from the island’s capital has grown an average of 28 percent each year. The Puerto Rican government is using JetBlue’s service to boost its standing as the premier U.S. hub in the Caribbean.
