Horsehead Corp. is the largest zinc producer in the U.S. and the leading manufacturer of value-added zinc products. The company’s products are used in an array of applications, including the galvanizing of fabricated steel products and as components in rubber tires, alkaline batteries, paint, chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

The company also operates four hazardous waste recycling facilities, which are focused on recovering zinc from electric arc furnace dust that can be used as a raw material feedstock for producing zinc metal and value-added zinc products. Their recycling and production processes form a complete recycling loop, and have been used to recycle over 500,000 tons of electric arc furnace dust.

Horsehead’s zinc powder is used in many different chemical, metallurgical and battery applications, in addition to being used in corrosion-resistant coating applications. The three basic lines of powders the company manufactures includes, special zinc powder for general chemical and metallurgical applications and friction applications, battery grade zinc powders for most types of alkaline batters, and copper-based powders for brazing, infiltrating and powdered metallurgical hardware.
