DRS Technologies, Inc. (DRS) Awarded Contracts of $48.8M to Deliver SADA II Integrated Dewar Cooler Assemblies (IDCAs) for U.S. Army Ground Vehicles

DRS Technologies (DRS), headquartered in Parsippany, New Jersey, is a supplier of integrated products, services and support to military forces, intelligence agencies and prime contractors worldwide. The DRS RSTA business segment develops, manufactures and supports electro-optical technologies, including advanced cooled and uncooled thermal-imaging solutions for soldier systems, ground vehicle, airborne, and maritime as well as for industrial, security, public safety and firefighting applications.

The company announced recently that it has received two contracts totaling $48.8M from Raytheon Network Centric Systems of Raytheon Company in McKinney, Texas. Under the contract the company will produce additional Standard Advanced Dewar Assembly (SADA) II units for the U.S. Army’s Second Generation Forward Looking Infrared (SGF) B-kit systems which provide infrared imaging capabilities for ground vehicle application. This follow-on award to the SGF SADA II contracts brings the company’s total awards from these contracts to over $100M. The work will be performed by the company’s DRS Sensors & Targeting Systems – Infrared Technologies Division in Dallas, Texas, and will deliver the units between August 2008 and June 2010.

These units are used on the Abrams Main Battle Tank and Bradley Fighting Vehicle, considered the most advanced ground combat vehicles in existence, and on Long Range Advance Scout Surveillance System (LRAS3) platforms. Technically demanding to design and produce, these highly sensitive SADA II units are integral to the most advanced ground vehicle sighting and targeting systems in the world.
