Charter Communications Inc. (CHTR) Partners with Walt Disney (DIS) to Launch Subscription Video Service

Leading broadband communications company Charter Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: CHTR) today announced it has entered into an agreement with Walt Disney Co.’s (NYSE: DIS) Disney-ABC Domestic Television, the leader in movie distribution. Per the agreement, Charter will launch a subscription video on demand (SVOD) entertainment service featuring the Walt Disney Studios classic and contemporary movies, and animated shorts.

In a press release, Maria Rothschild, senior director of Charter’s Video Product Management, said the partnership with Disney will benefit both companies and their customers. Disney’s Family Movies will rotate on a monthly basis, with new titles added each week. The demographic will include people of all ages, and will initially feature Disney classics such as “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”, “Air Buddies” and more.

“Charter is pleased to have developed this service with Disney-ABC Domestic Television and serve as their launch partner on this exciting new venture,” Rothschild stated. “Disney Family Movies is entertainment the whole family can enjoy together and a great value for our customers. With Disney Family Movies, in addition to our VOD movie line up of new releases, blockbusters, free movies, and high definition selections, Charter is the place for movies on television.”

“We are delighted to be offering a family-friendly entertainment service featuring universally treasured Disney titles to Charter’s customers,” Dan Cohen, executive vice president of pay television and interactive media, Disney-ABC Domestic Television stated. “This unique Disney offering is the first of its kind, generating an innovative use of the SVOD technology.”
