Centene Corporation (CNC) Has Healthy Plans for Growth

Centene Corporation is a multi-line healthcare company which operates in the healthcare plans industry. Located in St. Louis, Missouri, and trading on the NYSE, they provide programs and associated services to individuals who receive health benefits under Medicaid. This also includes the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and the Supplemental Security Income Program (SSI).

Centene also provides specialized services, such as behavioral health, health management, long-term care, managed vision, nurse triage, pharmacy benefits management, and treatment compliance. They do this through contract arrangements with healthcare and commercial enterprises. They operate health plans in Georgia, Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.

The company takes a local approach to managing health plans so they can provide high-quality services specific to the cultural dynamics of the location they are serving. While they provide their services tailored to each locality, their finance, information systems, claims processing and medical management support functions are a centralized function for efficiency of operations.

Centene’s health management, educational and other initiatives help members use the healthcare system so they receive the right medical services and the effective management they need for routine health problems. The company’s CenCorp Health Solutions (CenCorp)® provides specialized health solutions to patients, healthcare providers, pharmaceutical companies, distributors, and payers. CenCorp consists of wholly owned subsidiaries. These are Bridgeway Health Solutions, Cenpatico Behavioral Health, LLC®, Nurse Response, NurseWise®, Nurtur, OptiCare Managed Vision, and US Script Inc. They also have a pharmaceutical compliance program, ScriptAssist, and Enhanced Care Coordination.

On May 14, 2008, Centene announced that Bridgeway Health Solutions in Arizona, their subsidiary, received notification from the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) that it received a contract to provide Acute Care services to Medicaid recipients in the Yavapai Service Area. The contract is effective October 1, 2008, with a three-year term and two one-year options to renew. This is the third contract awarded to Centene by the State of Arizona.

Last week, Centene Corporation made a presentation at the Goldman Sachs 29th Annual Global Healthcare Conference in Dana Point, California. The company seeks to stay abreast of current healthcare issues so they can provide the top-quality programs people require. Centene’s goals are striving for excellence in offering quality healthcare to their members while building a leading, multi-line, managed care organization.
