Companies that make technology products need companies such as Amtech Systems Inc. The company is a global supplier of production and automation systems and related supplies for the manufacture of solar cells, semiconductors, and silicon wafers. Amtech has their headquarters in Tempe, Arizona and is part of the NASDAQ exchange. Founded in 1981, they manufacture capital equipment, including silicon wafer handling automation, thermal processing equipment, and related consumables used in fabricating solar cells and semiconductor devices.
Amtech Systems Inc. operates four wholly-owned subsidiaries. Their Amtech Automation, which is the company’s headquarters, designs, manufactures, and sells products used in the fabrication of semiconductor devices and wafer manufacturing. These include diffusion furnaces, furnace automation, and wafer polishing consumables. Their systems are for automating the loading and unloading of silicon wafers from all brands of existing and new semiconductor diffusion furnaces.
The company’s Bruce Technologies Inc. has their base in Billerica, Massachusetts. This subsidiary manufactures two lines of furnaces, which represent one of the largest installed bases of furnaces in the world. These are horizontal diffusion furnaces and VCVD furnaces. They manufacture these furnaces in the United States and Europe. The Amtech Tempress line and BTI furnaces are two of the three best-known horizontal diffusion furnace names in the business.
Amtech’s P.R. Hoffman Machine Products Inc. designs, manufactures, sells, and installs double-sided precision lapping and polishing machines. They also offer complementary products including carriers, wafer polishing templates, and machine parts. Founded in 1938, the subsidiary makes equipment for industries that manufacture parts with flat and parallel surfaces, and parts with exacting tolerances for thickness and surface finish. These would be for manufacturers in the semiconductor, quartz, ceramics, electronics, metalworking, optics, and medical industries. P.R. Hoffman has their headquarters in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
In addition, Amtech’s Tempress Systems B.V. subsidiary, located in Vaassen (the Netherlands), manufactures horizontal, vertical diffusion, and LPCVD furnaces. On August 27, Amtech Systems announced that their Tempress Systems B.V. subsidiary received a $7.5 million solar order for their diffusion processing systems from an existing customer in Asia.
J.S. Whang, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Amtech, said, “We are very pleased to receive this sizeable follow-on solar order in the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific region, which further demonstrates the increasing acceptance we are seeing for our solar products from our worldwide base of solar customers. We continue to be optimistic about the strength of our marketing pipeline and opportunities to grow our solar business into fiscal 2009.”
This optimism has Amtech Systems Inc. looking forward to greater growth for their company and their shareholders alike.
