American Electric Technologies, Inc. (AETI) Announces Appointment of New Director of Oil and Gas Development

American Electric Technologies, Inc., a provider of power distribution, control, and drive systems for drilling, marine, and industrial applications, announced the appointment of a new director of oil and gas business development, Frank Davis. The new appointment is geared toward accelerating the company’s market shares in the oil and gas drilling market.

“The growth in energy demand is driving additional exploration in the Marcellus Shale and other unconventional basins throughout the U.S.,” said Charles Dauber CEO of AETI. “This presents significant opportunities for our company as we leverage our traditional land drilling power system technologies to these markets.”

Frank Davis joins American Electric after working with National Oilwell Varco for 13 years, most recently as the director of electrical sales. Prior to this position, Davis was the North and South America sales manager. In his 13 years with Ross-Hill/National Oilwell Varco, he was responsible for presenting $600 million in revenue.

Davis has extensive experience in drilling rig power systems, including Ross-Hill and Hill-Hayes analog SCR drives up to the modern AC Variable Frequency Drivers (VFDs). He also held positions with sales and power system application roles at companies such as Tech Power Controls and C&G Industrial Supply. Davis is a fifth generation Texan, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology/Industrial Distribution from Texas A&M University in College Station.

Davis will be reporting directly to James Steffek, the president of the M&I Electric business at AETI.

“Frank’s work in building up NOV’s power systems group has given him a reputation for being one of the most successful sales executives in the drilling industry,” said Steffek. “We are pleased to welcome Frank to our team, and are confident his leadership will enable AETI to maximize opportunities for our oil and gas drilling operations.”

Davis will be responsible for building up the company’s market share for the company’s portfolio of drilling rig power solutions, which includes: Analog SCR (Hill-Hayes) drives, Digital SCR Drives, AC Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Generator Control Switchgear, Drilling Rig Control Systems, Power Control Rooms, and Complete Rig Out.

“AETI has a proven reputation in the drilling rig market,” said Davis. “I look forward to helping make AETI the leading oil and gas power system supplier.”

The company also recently announced a new direct wind converter and its successful deployment of Emergya Wind Technologies in various locations, including Alaska. The company announced this new at the Renewable Energy World Conference and Expo North America 2011.

“The EWT team is pleased with the success and performance of the AETI converter system,” said Eric Bakker, Chief Executive Officer of Emergya Wind Technologies. “This system has been reliable throughout the past year and continues to produce at a very high power output.”

The wind energy converter, designed to meet US grid-tie requirements, low-voltage ride through, dynamic VAR control and anti-islanding capabilities, integrates the latest power conversion technology.
