Active Power, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACPW) announced that an unnamed global search engine has placed a multimillion dollar order for its uninterruptible power supply equipment.
The 12-megawatt sale, intended for delivery before the end of the year, will be deployed at one of the customer’s newer data centers to protect against power outages. The order is for twelve 1,200 kVa CleanSource systems, which incorporate flywheel technology.
“We continue to see rapid adoption of our flywheel technology particularly among major data center owners and operators who recognize the value proposition and performance benefits inherent with systems of this design,” said Active Power President and CEO Jim Clishem.
The company estimates that this size of an installation could yield up to $1 million per year in electrical and operational savings. A 10-percent efficiency improvement on twelve 1200 kVA systems can displace 7,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, a company news release states. That is the equivalent of removing 1,250 vehicles off the roads every year.
