Active Power (Nasdaq: ACPW) delivers efficient, reliable and “green” critical power solutions and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems with the ability to maintain operations during power disturbances. The company today announced that Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: JAVA) has identified and approved Active Power’s PowerHouse system.
The PowerHouse system is a containerized power and cooling infrastructure designed to complement the Sun Modular Datacenter. The system is centered on Active Power’s flywheel-based CleanSource UPS systems, ideal for containerization because of its rugged and climate-resistant design.
“Energy consumption and facility space continue to be pain points for data center operators,” Michael Markides, analyst at IMS Research stated in the press release. “The challenge lies in how to help organizations reduce their energy consumption with green products that don’t consume a lot of space, but that also carry low capital and operating expenses. Green solutions that can offer these attributes along with scalability will continue to be sought after from end users, particularly from those organizations that are building new data centers.”
PowerHouse provides a modular, integrated power and cooling infrastructure solution for the Sun Modular Datacenter, equipped with a standby generator in case of power disturbances, high-efficiency flywheel-based UPS system, chiller and switch gear. The package not only reduces power consumption without compromising efficiency, but also saves floor space for customers with limited facility space.
