Corel Corporation (CRE.TO) (CREL) Draws on Years of Experience to Further Growth

Corel Corporation is a leading developer of graphics, productivity, and digital media software. Incorporated in May 1985, and headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Corel designs their various software products to help people, and businesses, become more productive. They strive to develop products that are easy to learn and use.

Their product lineup includes many well-known brands. These are CorelDRAW® Graphics Suite, Corel® Paint Shop Pro®, Corel® Painter(TM), Corel DESIGNER®, Corel® WordPerfect® Office, WinZip® and iGrafx®. In 1989, the company introduced CorelDRAW® and it was the beginning of a revolution in the graphic design industry.

Corel Corporation trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the “CRE” symbol. They trade on NASDAQ under the “CREL” symbol. Their current market capitalization is $277.17M. Aside from Ottawa, the company’s other major offices are in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Taiwan, China, and Japan.

On June 6, 2008, Corel announced that Corel(R) WinDVD(R) has received BD-R 1.1 and BD-RE 2.1 certification for Blu-ray(R) recordable and re-recordable media. This certification means Corel WinDVD has met the strict standards and guidelines of the Blu-ray Disc Association to ensure the optimal user experience for their customers. With BD-R 1.1 and BD-RE 2.1 support, Corel WinDVD users will be able to play back Blu-ray recordable and re-recordable discs. This will include discs recorded in the latest-generation Blu-ray Disc recorders.

Denise MacDonell, senior director of product management, Digital Media at Corel said, “Corel continues to position itself at the forefront of Blu-ray technology by incorporating support for BD-R 1.1 and BD-RE 2.1 in Corel WinDVD. By offering more efficient video encoding, we are giving more customers the ability to playback cutting-edge video on today’s widely available Blu-ray recordable media.”

Corel Corporation’s products have more than 100 million active users in over 75 countries worldwide. They get their product out through a well-established network of international resellers, retailers, original equipment manufacturers and online merchants. In addition, Corel Corporation operates their own global web portals for customers to access their products.
