Axcelis Technologies, a leading supplier of high-productivity solutions for the semiconductor industry, has been honored with the widely recognized Spotlight Award for its innovative bicycle-commuting program.
The Excellence in Commuter Options awards was held in Boston at the beautiful Fenway Park on March 28th. The annual awards ceremony honors Massachusetts’s employers whose green efforts reduced city congestion and greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging employees to utilize various transportation options. Some of those options include biking, walking, public transportation, and carpooling.
Steve Roberge, Director of Environmental Health and Safety, accepted the award on Axcelis Technologies Inc.’s behalf. He stated, “We’re honored to receive this award. Axcelis is committed to providing green, sustainable transportation options for our employees, to keep our employees healthy and lessen our environmental impact. Axcelis considers promotion of cycling as an important component of its ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System and its goal to reduce its overall carbon footprint form both direct and indirect sources of carbon emissions.”
Axcelis Technologies encourages bicycling to work, even providing employee incentives. Some of the company rewards for taking up cycling include secure covered parking facilities, showers, and locker rooms. In addition, Axcelis provides discounts on training in bicycle safety, biking gear, and bicycle maintenance. To further demonstrate the benefits of cycling, the company sponsored two successful Bike vs. Car commute to work races last year. Also a member of the North Shore Transportation Management Association, Axcelis is able to offer employees access to a variety of commuter services and additional incentives.
Headquartered in Beverly, Mass., Axcelis Technologies is dedicated to developing enabling process applications through the design and manufacturing of ion implantation systems.
