Constellation Energy Group Inc. (CEG) to Supply Renewable Energy Certificates to MJSA Expo New York

Constellation Energy Group Inc., a leader in energy products and services in North America, announced recently that it will be supplying Green-e Energy certified renewable energy certificates, or RECs, from wind energy facilities to the MJSA Expo New York, which will be held from March 13-15, 2011.

“Constellation Energy welcomes the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to renewable energy while also driving demand for new, clean wind power by matching 100 percent of MJSA Expo’s electricity usage with RECs from wind energy facilities in the United States,” said Michael Kagan, Chief Retail Sales officer for Constellation Energy, the endorsed energy supplier for MJSA.

“We are excited to announce our first 100 percent Green Expo and promote renewable energy certificates to MJSA members,” said David Cochran, president and chief executive officer of MJSA. “RECs are an easy way for businesses to support renewable energy generation and demonstrate a commitment to operate in an environmentally responsible manner.”

A REC is representative of the environmental benefits from electricity that are generated by wind, solar, or any other renewable power facilities. By matching the electricity used at the MJSA event with the RECs, Constellation avoids up to 279,713 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.

MJSA, the US traded association that hosts jewelry makers, designers, and related suppliers, based in Attleboro Falls, Massachusetts, is the main organizer for the Expo. This Expo is the industry’s oldest and largest trade show that is dedicated to the manufacturing and design of jewelry. Attendance to the trade show in New York City is expected to exceed 3,000.

MJSA announced last month that it chose Constellation Energy as the endorsed energy supplier for its 1,500 members. Constellation Energy offers a diverse portfolio of energy management products, which range from competitive electricity supply to renewable energy certificates and demand response programs. The demand response programs compensate users who reduce energy use during peak demand periods.

RECs can be used to reduce indirect greenhouse gas emissions and help support the operation and development of domestic sources of more clean and renewable energy to be used.
